The Ministry of Education unveiled a portal on January 4, 2024 inviting students from classes IX to XII to register for the newly launched “Prerana: An Experiential Learning Programme.” The initiative, announced by the government in June 2022, aims to inspire youth to become catalysts of change through a comprehensive and transformative experience.

The programme involves a rigorous three-stage selection process, with two students from each district chosen to attend in batches of 20 — 10 boys and girls each. This year-long programme is dedicated to instilling leadership qualities in participants.

Driven by a commitment to integrate the principles of the Indian education system and the values outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Prerana combines experiential learning with innovative technology. The ministry emphasised the programme’s unique approach, blending heritage with innovation.

Located in Vadnagar, Gujarat, the programme will operate from the Vadnagar Kumar Shala No-1, established in 1888, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended in class 1 in 1956. The school, undergoing restoration by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), will be renamed “Prerana School.”

The curriculum for school has been developed by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar. It focuses on nine value-based themes, including self-respect, bravery, hard work, compassion, diversity, integrity, innovation, admiration, and freedom. The programme is rooted in the timeless wisdom of India’s rich civilization and aligns with the principles and ideals of the Prime Minister, who is an alumnus of the school.
