Interviews are one of the phases of securing your first job. It has been found that most students prepare late during an interview process, which increases stress and means missed opportunities. As a fresher, you can stand out from other candidates through a structured preparation process by which you are confident and well-prepared on the day of the interview.

Here is a seven-step plan designed to help you succeed

Prepare Early Enough: Normally, freshers prepare for their first job for less than two hours. However, preparation is a crucial process that helps manage anxiety and might give one an edge. Preparation in due time increases confidence levels, hence no stress at all at the last minute.

Understand What Interviews Typically Involve: Most first-round interviews follow a structure where the interviewee asks standard questions. Understanding what these typical interview questions will be means that you are better prepared.

Understand Your Questions: According to a study, the top five questions asked in nearly 90% of all interviews are: Tell me about yourself. Why do you want to work here? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Describe a time when you overcame a challenge. Since you are fresher, it can be an instance that you can narrate from college day or during the Internship period. Where do you see yourself in five years? You will also be asked industry-specific questions that relate to the job openings you’re applying for. Prepare yourself for these generic questions.

Draft Initial Answers: While composing your answers, keep in mind the needs or challenges the company faces as you tailor your response. Here is what you can do: Identify what exactly the company needs or challenges.

Tune Your Answers: Refine your answers for at least a week. You can read them aloud and even ask friends or any AI tool to make it sound plausible.

Memorise the Answers: Invest time rehearsing by memorising your answers. First, practice reciting with notes, then without them. This will make it easy to remember during the interview

Refine how you say it: Record yourself so you can study all the non-verbal cues of body language, tone, and speech patterns. Watch out for filler words like “um” and “like,” so you do not have a bumpy ride during the interview.

By following these steps, you will be well-prepared and confident in the interview process. Remember, preparation is the antidote to anxiety. Prepare now and look forward to showcasing your talent and skills when the time comes.
