Winged Victory: Apeejay scholars shine bright in state-level eco battle

In a society increasingly defined by environmental challenges, a cadre of visionary students is stepping into the forefront, armed not with conventional weapons but with knowledge, passion, and an unwavering commitment to environmental change. These young trailblazers, hailing from diverse backgrounds, have chosen to wield their intellect in competitions that transcend the traditional academic arena. From deciphering the intricacies of ecosystems to devising innovative solutions for sustainability, the duo from Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park in Delhi stand at the vanguard of a generation determined to usher in meaningful environmental transformation.

In a riveting display of intellect and environmental acumen, the formidable Devyansh Chopra from class IX and Avyaan Srivastava hailing from class VIII, etched their names in the annals of the Wild Wisdom Global Challenge. The stage for this remarkable competition was Chinmaya Mission, Lodhi Road, where a state-level offline round unfolded in October 2023.

This grandiose event transcended mere academic rivalry, drawing in over 90 teams from schools spanning the educational landscape of Delhi and Haryana. The prestigious affair was graced by luminaries in the field, the likes of Ravi Singh, Secretary General and CEO of WWF India, Karan Bhalla, the Chief Operating Officer of WWF India, and the erudite Nikhil John, well-known naturalist and birder. The presence of several school principals added a touch of academic grandeur to an already illustrious gathering.

The Wild Wisdom Global Challenge, a cerebral crucible for young minds, unfolded in two intricate stages. The initial hurdle was a thought-provoking questionnaire-based elimination round, dissecting the intricate nuances of bird ecology. Team Magpie, represented by Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, not only weathered this intellectual storm but soared to secure a coveted position among the top five teams.

The stage was then set for a showdown of wits in a rigorous live quiz, expertly orchestrated by a seasoned quiz master. This high-stakes quiz comprised five intense rounds, each a litmus test of the participants’ knowledge and agility of thought. Team Magpie, proved their mettle, clinching the fourth position among the formidable array of 90-plus participating schools.

The crowning moment of triumph saw our victors adorned with certificates, jute bags, WWF quiz books, notepads, collar badges, and pencils embedded with seeds — a symbolic gesture of sowing the seeds of knowledge and environmental consciousness. As accolades rained upon them, the joyous occasion was also amplified by the felicitation of the 30 students who valiantly participated in the week-long online challenge in early October. Their commitment and dedication to the cause of environmental awareness did not go unnoticed.

In a fitting denouement, special recognition was accorded to Mr Pranjal, the indomitable teacher-coordinator and TGT Science at Apeejay, whose guidance and mentorship steered Team Magpie to their well-deserved triumph.
