
The Department of School Education & Literacy under the Ministry of Education, along with Atal Innovation Mission (NITI Aayog), has launched Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025 – a large-scale innovation challenge aimed at school students across India.
What is Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025?
Viksit Bharat Buildathon is envisioned as one of the biggest school hackathons ever in India. Its goal: to inspire students to think creatively and build solutions around national priorities.
The Buildathon encourages students to design prototypes or project ideas under four core themes:
- Vocal for Local
- Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India)
- Swadeshi (Indigenous innovation)
- Samriddh Bharat (Prosperous India)
Who Can Participate & How?
- Eligible Students: Classes VI to XII
- Team Size: 5 to 7 students per team
- Schools: Multiple teams can register from the same school
- Number of Schools Targeted: Over 1.5 lakh schools
- Student Reach: Around 1 crore students nationwide
Important Dates & Process

| Winner Announcement & Felicitation | Top winners are honoured | January 2026 |
At the culmination, over 1,000 winners will be selected and celebrated.
Purpose & Vision
The Buildathon is more than a competition. Its aims include:
- Instilling innovation culture in schools
- Promoting problem-solving skills through hands-on learning
- Encouraging self-reliance and locally inspired solutions
- Aligning with NEP 2020’s focus on creativity, critical thinking, and experiential learning
- Highlighting student innovators on national and global platforms
This initiative also builds on past successes like the School Innovation Marathon 2024 and supports programs like the Atal Tinkering Labs and Student Innovator Programme.
