US, India aligned on technology and AI

On October 12, 2023 Arvind Krishna, CEO of IBM, convened with US President Joe Biden and his senior leadership team in the USto set forth guidelines for the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI), aiming to enhance productivity and bolster economic competitiveness.

Merely a day following this event, in India, seven working groups under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) submitted the inaugural edition of the IndiaAI report to the Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

Considering the developments in both these countries, Danish Faruqui, CEO of Fab Economics, observed that simultaneous advancements in AI deployment in both the US and India signify a shared vision between the two nations.

In addition to this, Krishna too highlighted the positive impact of bipartisan, pro-investment policies implemented by the administration, emphasising their role in revitalising critical infrastructure and supporting domestic semiconductor production and R&D. He also commended the administration’s efforts to establish voluntary guidelines for AI deployment, a technology poised to enhance productivity and competitiveness globally. He encouraged Biden to advocate for the adoption of similar principles worldwide.

Besides, Chandrasekhar expressed that the IndiaAI report will serve as a guiding roadmap for the development of India’s AI ecosystem. He noted the significance of the comprehensive report submitted by seven working groups after extensive research. This report outlines the core goals of the IndiaAI programme, aligning with the vision articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who emphasised “India for AI and AI for India.” Chandrasekhar stated that IndiaAI aims to be a dynamic facilitator in achieving the goal of a $1 trillion digital economy.
