Recently, Apeejay Svran Global School, Sector 21-D, Faridabad, observed Soil Conservation Day with great enthusiasm. Its youngest learners came together to explore the wonders of soil and understand the importance of protecting our natural resources. The day was thoughtfully planned with interactive demonstrations, engaging activities, and a strong message of environmental care woven into every learning moment.
The celebration began with the nursery children participating in an interactive presentation that introduced them to the world beneath their feet. They learnt how soil is home to tiny insects and living organisms, and how it plays a vital role in helping plants grow. Through visuals, fun questions, and guided conversations, the little ones gained an age-appropriate understanding of the role of soil in sustaining life.
Junior KG learners participated in a lively session on the essential uses of soil in daily life, from growing food to building homes. The highlight for them was the hands-on watering of plants in the school’s green area. The children excitedly held watering cans and gently poured water into the soil, witnessing firsthand how plants depend on both soil and water for healthy growth. Their beaming faces reflected a growing sense of responsibility toward nurturing nature.
The Senior KG explorers took the learning a step further with real-life observations. They examined a potted plant, touching the soil and noticing how the roots grip it for support. They also discovered how soil stores nutrients that trees absorb to grow tall and strong. Adding creativity to learning, the students indulged in art activities such as leaf printing and soil-texture crafts. Using soil as a natural material, they created unique artwork while developing sensory skills.
Throughout the day, teachers encouraged thoughtful discussions on why soil must be conserved and how everyone, even young children, can play a role in protecting it. Simple actions like watering plants, avoiding soil wastage, and keeping the ground pollution-free were highlighted as meaningful contributions.
The celebration successfully nurtured environmental awareness among the pre-primary learners. By connecting knowledge with hands-on activities, the event instilled early values of care, respect and gratitude for the Earth, ensuring that these tiny environmental stewards grow up with a strong foundation for sustainability.
