This young shooter shines at Haryana Pre-State Championship

In the world of precision, patience, and focus, Class 9 student Dakshita Nara is already making a name for herself. Representing Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, this young markswoman recently participated in the 4th Haryana Pre-State Shooting Competition 2025 held at the prestigious Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, Tughlakabad, New Delhi. Competing in both the 10m Air Pistol and 25m Pistol events, she secured 9th and 11th ranks respectively, outshining thousands of participants. In this conversation, Dakshita shares her journey, discipline, and dreams of winning Olympic gold for India.

Dakshita, when did you begin your journey as a shooter and what inspired you to take up the sport?

I started shooting on 24th April 2024. I’ve always loved sports. One day, my father told me about shooting and I instantly got interested. He has been a huge inspiration for me.

You competed against thousands. What were your scores and ranks in the recent competition?

I scored 367 out of 400 in the 10m Pistol Sub Youth Women category and ranked 9th. In the 25m Pistol Junior Women category, I scored 246 and ranked 11th. There were over 4000 participants, so it felt really great to stand out.

How do you prepare for such intense competitions?

My training is quite long. I practise for 6 to 7 hours every day. After shooting, I do physical training, and I follow a strict diet as well. All of this helps me stay focused and fit.

What do you remember most about participating at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range?

I was so happy and excited to shoot there. It’s such a well-known place. I didn’t feel any pressure – I just focused on my sight and keeping my mind calm.

Did you face any major challenges during the competition?

Honestly, I didn’t face any big challenges. I kept my focus and followed my coach’s instructions. That helped me a lot.

Any lessons from your state-level experience you’d like to share?

Yes! I learned not to chase tens. Just do what your coach tells you. Stick to the basics, follow the process, and results will follow.

What are your goals for the future?

I want to win gold in the next state-level tournament. After that, my goal is to represent India in the Olympics and make records in both the 10m and 25m pistol events.
