‘This class 9 student’s journey with Kathak dance began in school’

Deeksha Arora is a class 9 student at Apeejay School, Faridabad Sector-15. She is fairly good in her academic progress and is a champion when it comes to Kathak and Indian vocal classical music.

In a quick interview, Deeksha’s mother speaks about her daughter’s love for music and dance and more.  Read edited excerpts:

Is Deeksha enjoying school life?

Deeksha is very happy. We enrolled her in this school right after her years at Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld. She has a lot of friends at school and also shares a good bond with her teachers. She is very attached to the school and is loving it here.

How has her academic performance been so far?

She likes Math and Computer Science the most. She is doing well in all the subjects. She is gradually picking up Science as well. This wasn’t the case up till class 8, but now when Physics, Chemistry and Biology are separated, it has become a bit complex. But she is showcasing confidence to cope with it.

Oh we relate to her! Any liking towards extra-curricular?

My daughter has been a Kathak dancer for the past 7 years. Her dance journey began in the school under Ms Mrinalini, the former school dance teacher. She initiated her into this life. May God bless her pious soul, she passed away sometime ago.

Now Deeksha is pursuing a course in Kathak from Allahabad University and presently is in her fifth year. She is also learning Indian Vocal classical from there and is in sixth year.

What about her sports side?

Deeksha isn’t inclined in sports as of now. Because academics is getting very thorough and with the time consumed in music and dance, there is hardly time left for sports.

Alright! We hope the teachers are doing justice to the kids?

Yes, certainly. We have never enrolled our child in private tuitions so far. The teachers are doing their best.

Finally, any recent achievements of the student?

She has recently been awarded the Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values. She always conducts herself in the best possible way in the school and tries her best to help and be kind to all.
