It is a very mature statement, “An artist’s mind is so deep that no one can possibly fathom it.” You’ll be surprised to know that this comes from a class 8 student at Apeejay School, Svran Global, Faridabad.
Riya Vohra, this week’s Apeejay Aspiring Artist, is truly full with potential. The diversity of her art canvas reveals it. A mind that can enjoy both realism and abstraction speaks volumes about the same. In a quick interview, the budding artist mentions how imagination plays a key role in her art. Read edited excerpts:
Tell us when did your art journey start?
I was a toddler when I started, say around play-school.
That’s quite early! So which art form do you enjoy the most?
I like both abstract and realism art forms. Abstract art opens up a world full of imagination as well as colours, and realism makes the page more dynamic.
How does your school support you as an artist?
In my artistic journey till now, my school has supported me a lot as an artist. The competitions held in the school have improved me a lot as an artist and the teachers always guided me. Now I have improved so much in art, I would say all thanks to my school.
What is your definition of art?
Art is an endless imagination in our head which is full of thoughts and ideas. The imagination of an artist can reach so far and deep that nobody can possibly fathom.
How do you approach an artwork?
It depends on the art form, but mostly it takes me around 3-4 hours to complete an artwork. I often like to draw anime, realism and traditional Indian art forms.
Upcoming artworks?
One of my upcoming artworks is a semi-realism artwork on a girl figure. I will be using two mediums to colour it: watercolors and wax based pencil colours.
A new art form you wish to learn?
I would like to learn portraits, but they are a bit hard. However, I have faith in myself and I know my school will also help me in this.
Other hobbies apart from art?
I like to play basketball and cook food.
