This Apeejay student made a prettier Monalisa

Isha Monga is one of those gifted painters who always take up a daunting challenge but also ace it superbly. The first time she was interviewed for her magical portrayal of Messi kissing the World Cup trophy. Now, her artistic skills are even sharper with the passage of time.

This time, she has painted a captivating picture of Monalisa, the world’s most famous painting. Making her way again into the Apeejay Aspiring Artist series, let us see what the Apeejay nerul girl has to say this time. Read edited excerpts:

What inspired you to paint such a difficult picture: Monalisa?

I, out of curiosity, did a Google search on some of the most famous artworks and on the top of the list was Monalisa. I thought of giving it a try and ultimately enjoyed painting it.

What do you like about the original Monalisa painting by Da Vinci?

The eyes and her smile. It is said that her eyes create the appearance that they are following you and her smile is mystical and engaging.

So, how much time did this masterpiece take?

It took me around three days to complete the two-feet circular canvas painting. I spent around three hours each day on this. It took a lot of effort but it was all worth it.

What new art forms have you learnt since our last interview?

I have tried my hands at abstract painting and oil painting, I have also done glass bottle painting.

How is the school encouraging you as an artist?

The school is encouraging me a lot to pursue my passion. I am constantly guided by my Vice Principal Mam, Ms Preety, our Secondary Coordinator Ms Shakuntala,  my art teacher Ms Pallavi and my class teacher Ms Ritu Mam.  They encourage me to take part in all the events and this gives me a lot of confidence.

 What painting next now?

I am planning to make an Eiffel Tower Painting next. Let’s see!

Any plans to take art professionally in future?

Yes, I plan to pursue art professionally. I gave my elementary exam last year in October and will also be giving my intermediate this year.

Finally, who is your favourite painter and what’s your favourite painting?

I love Leonardo Vinci’s Monalisa as you can see clearly.  Apart from that I also like the great M.F Hussain’s paintings.
