Apeejay Newsroom caught up with Ehan to delve into his creative process and discover what inspired this remarkable achievement.

Read edited excerpts:

Ehan, can you tell us what sparked the idea for your comic book project?
During the summer holidays, I had a lot of time to brainstorm. Initially, I considered using Shin Chan as the main character, but ultimately decided on Doraemon because I thought it would be more enjoyable and nostalgic. I wanted to capture some childhood memories, and Doraemon seemed perfect for that.

How did you come up with the idea of creating a complete comic book instead of just a strip?
Besides the comic strip, I had another English homework assignment which involved reading a book by Ruskin Bond or another author. I was so inspired by the books and magazines I explored that I thought of creating my own magazine. That’s when the idea for a full comic book took shape.

What was the most challenging aspect of designing and writing your comic book?
The toughest part was definitely writing the script. Imagining the visuals was straightforward, but aligning them with the story while avoiding copyright issues made it more complex. I had to ensure everything was original and cohesive, which took a lot of time and effort.

Can you share a bit about the tools and techniques you used to create your comic book?I used Adobe Photoshop and After Effects for designing and creating the visuals. These tools helped me bring my ideas to life. I also had to ensure that the comic book wasn’t violating any copyrights, which required some research and careful planning.

What part of the process did you enjoy the most?
I particularly enjoyed the parts where I had to take photos for the comic. Capturing emotions like laughing and sleeping was challenging but fun. It was a bit tricky with people around, but it was rewarding to see it all come together.

How did it feel to receive recognition from your principal and coordinator ma’am?
Receiving appreciation from my principal and coordinator ma’am was incredibly fulfilling. It made all the hard work worthwhile. It was also a bonus that I recently earned the badge of prefect, which made me even happier.

Do you have any plans to continue with comic book creation or other creative projects?
Yes, I’m thinking about continuing with the comic book and possibly sharing it publicly. It’s a great way to practice my skills and express my creativity.

How has this project helped you in other areas of your school life?
Working on this comic book has significantly improved my writing and creative skills. It also gave me a break from the usual routine and allowed me to explore something new.

What advice would you give to other students who want to start their own creative projects?
My tip would be to visualise your story first. If you can imagine it clearly, the rest will follow more smoothly. It’s important to have a clear picture of what you want to create.

How has your experience at Apeejay School influenced your creative endeavours?
I absolutely love my time at Apeejay. The teachers are very supportive and encourage us to explore our interests. The opportunities for activities like anchoring and various forms of art really help boost our confidence and creativity.

What are some of your favourite activities outside of schoolwork?
In my free time, I enjoy playing chess, badminton, and swimming. These activities help me relax and stay active.
