‘The opportunities and the sense of involvement in activities was amazing here’

She recently graduated from Apeejay School Pitampura after having studied Humanities in classes XI and XII. At present, she is pursuing History and Archeology at Shiv Nadar University. “Since History has always been one of my favourite subjects the school gave me the extra push I needed to pursue it academically,” Aanshika Gupta shared. In a candid interview, she talked about her memories from the school and how the teachers shaped her life to date.

Tell us about the Asia Talent Award you received.

I am honoured to have received the Asia Talent Award from the World Talent Network for my contributions to literature and poetry. My work focuses on exploring human emotions and life’s complexities, resonating deeply with readers. This recognition acknowledges my passion and motivates me to continue refining my craft, with the hopes of inspiring future generations of writers.

What are your career plans?

I’d like to go into archaeology. It’s something I’ve always been passionate about, and it aligns perfectly with my interests and academic background.

Can you share some fond memories from your school days?

I have so many wonderful memories from Apeejay School. More so, because I have been at the Pitampura branch right from the start. The teachers were great, and I especially remember our principal, who used to give us motivational speeches regularly. The speeches were inspiring and fun.

Apeejay School places a lot of emphasis on human values. What values did you learn at school?

I wouldn’t say it’s about specific values but it was more about life lessons. The teachers were very kind and supportive. They taught us discipline, independence, and how to navigate life.

Could you give an example of how the school helped you become independent?

I participated in many competitions, including house competitions, Inter-school events, and several other events and programmes. These experiences helped me learn teamwork and take on responsibilities independently.

Did you participate in extracurricular activities during school?

Yes, I excelled in art and creative writing. I used to sketch and draw a lot, and I was part of the art club under Nidhi Ma’am. For creative writing, I used to share my work with the teachers for feedback. I was also part of the Atal Tinkering Lab. In the art club, the teachers guided and supported me as I worked on my sketches and drawings. Creative writing was another passion of mine and the teachers here honed my skills.

How is college life different from school life?

In school, we were given everything we needed — study materials, notes, and guidance. In college, we have to find resources ourselves. I often spend time researching online for my projects and assignments.

Did Apeejay School prepare you for college life?

Absolutely. In classes XI and XII, we worked on projects where we had to create files, do role-plays, make PowerPoint presentations, and conduct research. These activities taught me important skills that I use in college every day.

The research skills I gained while working on school projects, particularly in History, have been invaluable. We were required to prepare detailed files, create presentations, and do role-plays, which have prepared me well for the challenges in college.

Teachers who had a significant impact on you.

My class XI and XII teachers played a huge role in shaping me. They gave detailed feedback after exams, explaining why marks were deducted so I could learn and improve. My Political Science teacher was especially impactful. She was very professional yet kind and asked thought-provoking questions that prepared me for higher studies.

What advice would you give current students at Apeejay School?

Enjoy your school life while you can. It’s a wonderful phase, and you’ll miss it once it’s over. For those taking the Board exams, I would say, follow the traffic light method – Green for topics you know completely, yellow for topics that need revision, and red for topics you don’t know at all. It’s a great way to organise and prioritise your studies.

Three standout aspects of Apeejay School, Pitampura.

If I had to pick three things, it would be: The teachers, the wide range of opportunities, and the sense of involvement in activities.
