‘The country’s glory’: Poem by Ishita Adya, Apeejay School, Noida

Hail to the Mother who gave us life
Who shines even during the night
Who gave us all, a ray of light
From Kashmir to Kanyakumari
A land always filled with glory
So let me tell you today, her story.

Rich in resources, gold and goods,
Number of animals living in the woods
Also called the ‘sonchiriya’
This was the beginning of India

One King after the other ruling the country
And her children welcoming them humbly
Until the British arrived, thinking of us weakly
Fought wars all along, used the country for the wrong

It was time to stop them,
It was time to take revenge,
It was time to make things right,
To do or die,
To stand against them with all our might
It was the uprising of many knights

Gandhi, Nehru, Naidu and Vallabhbhai.
All of them risking their lives
For the country’s pride.

They brought India victory
And now it’s our turn to continue this story.

Not to brood upon our past
But to work upon the glory we foresee
On this Independence Day
Let us all say
‘Bhaarat Maa ko mera salaam
Roshan karenge ab hum sab tera naam!’
