The Art of Man-making: ‘Be genuine and stay true to yourself’

In an increasingly interconnected world, it is quintessential for every human being to underpin human values. Making innate use of empathy, compassion, tolerance, and forgiveness leads to conflict resolution and spreads peace. Human values tend to provide a moral compass for individuals to remain humane. Meet Aadya Atri, a student of class VII, studying at Apeejay School, Noida who has recently been honoured with the coveted Dr.Stya Paul Award for Human Values.

In an impromptu interview, she talks about the significance of human values and their innate ability to shape a child, especially during their formative years.

Tell us about yourself.

I’m an outgoing person. I have a talent for classical dancing, especially Odissi. I also love writing, reading, art and crafts. I enjoy exploring and discovering new things as well.

What was your reaction to getting the award?

It was the most bizarre feeling. I was happy and felt contented to the core. It is not easy to achieve an award that is not concerned about your academic capability but for you, as a human being.

What are human values?

Human values are something everyone should instill in their lives for their present and future endeavours; we should try and ensure that others imbibe them as well. These values include being punctual, treating people well, and showing kindness.

How do you plan to continue your human values in your life?

I must abide by those all my life because that’s how I am going to improve myself and also set an example for others. For instance, when I’m outside the school, and see someone having trouble crossing the road, I’ll help them. I used to help my grandma with her gardening. Helping others shows that you have been brought up with good human values.

Who is your role model?

My teachers and my parents. My parents have always supported me and my decisions. They have worked super hard in their life and I must take it as an example and a greater inspiration from them and follow the same lead. I am so grateful to my teachers who have given me so many opportunities to explore. They are the ones who have encouraged me and have helped me come this far. It’s due to them and their combined methodologies through which I have received this award today.

What would you like to imbibe from Dr Stya Paul’s life?

Dr Stya Paul was a very caring and selfless person. He was always happy and satisfied with what he accomplished. I want to learn how to bring these qualities into my life. I wish to appreciate my achievements and be thankful for everything. Our school’s motto is Soaring High is My Nature, and I want to rise to great heights, just like our Founder-Chairman sir did.

What was the mantra that you followed to get this prestigious award?

I believe that if you want to achieve anything in life, you should start by being true to yourself. There’s no need to pretend to be someone else. These values are already inside us, and we just need to know when to use them. Being genuine and staying true to myself played a big role in helping me achieve this award.
