She is, at present, working as the marketing lead for a UK-based brand, where she handles digital marketing for India. Her journey began in journalism before pursuing a degree in mass communication, followed by an MBA. Over time, her interest shifted towards brand building and strategy, which naturally led her into marketing. Meet Shubra Saini, an alumna of Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad (batch 2004).
In a spontaneous interview, this alumna turned parent talks about what made her choose this school for her son Agastya, whois in Class III now.
What aspects of the school have stayed with you over the years?
I clearly remember how encouraging the teachers were, especially for senior students. Coming from a very rigid and hierarchical school environment earlier, Apeejay School felt warm and welcoming. Teachers were approachable and motivating, and there was a sense of mutual respect. That made a lasting impact on my confidence during a crucial phase of my life.
As a parent now, what feels the same and what feels different about the school?
The overall look and feel of the campus is largely unchanged. It is still green, open, and welcoming, which I see as a positive. At the same time, it does make me feel that not much has evolved in over twenty years. Apart from air-conditioned classrooms and some digital additions, infrastructure remains similar. With changing times, schools can look at building on their strengths by reducing physical load on students and incorporating systems such as lockers and assignment-based learning.
How has being an alumnus influenced your perspective as a parent?
I was not at Apeejay School during my early childhood years, the way my son is, but one thing remains consistent. Teachers are approachable. Parents can share concerns, and issues are usually addressed positively. Growing up, I was a fearful child because I did not know how teachers would respond. My son is very different. He knows he can speak to his teacher, to us as parents, and that communication flows both ways.
Why did you choose Apeejay School for your child?
My positive memories were a strong factor. It is also a legacy school in Faridabad with nearly five decades of credibility. Smaller class sizes and individual attention from teachers were equally important for us.
Do you see the school’s emphasis on values reflected in your child?
Yes, very clearly. Agastya is confident and feels safe in his environment. Exposure to stage activities and public speaking has reduced stage fright and helped him interact comfortably with people.
Any message you would like to share with current students?
If there is one thing I strongly believe in, it is kindness, especially towards animals. Taking care of community animals builds empathy and creates a healthier ecosystem for everyone. That lesson, I feel, is just as important as academics.
