An alumnus of the 1996 batch, he completed his Class X at Apeejay School, Nerul. Today, he returns to the campus as a parent, with his daughter Pihu studying in Class VI and his son, Jay, having completed Class X before moving on to an integrated course. For him, choosing this school was instinctive, rooted in trust, familiarity, and a deep personal connection with the school. Meet Jigar Parekh.
In a candid interview, he talks about how he never explored any other school for his children, among other things.
What made the school unique for you as a student and now as a parent?
When I joined in the 1990s, it was the only CBSE School in Navi Mumbai. I had shifted from an ICSE school, and the difference in teaching approach was very evident. Apeejay School focused on overall development, not just academic scores. Many activities helped shape our personality and confidence.
A moment that stands out for you.
One aspect I still remember clearly is the prayer book we used in school. At that age, we may not have fully understood its meaning, but as life progressed, those prayers revealed their deeper values. From the morning assembly to the teachers and the leadership of the principal, everything contributed to our overall growth.
When your daughter shares her school experiences, what reminds you of your own time here?
When she talks about the activities she participates in, it brings back my memories. I often feel as if I am reliving those moments through her. During a parent-teacher meeting, I realised I was sitting in the same classroom where I once studied. I even told the teacher that I used to sit on those very benches with my friends. It was a truly special moment.
What values taught here still guide you in life?
The most important value Apeejay Schools instil is integrity. It shapes not only your career but your entire life. The school environment makes integrity a natural part of who you are. Responsibility is another key value. From a young age, students are given complete responsibility for tasks, which helps build confidence and accountability.
What has changed at the school over the years, and what has remained the same?
The infrastructure and use of technology have improved significantly. The present Principal has brought in modern systems and a clear vision for the future. Despite these changes, the core values, warmth, and overall atmosphere of the school remain exactly the same.
Where do you see yourself reflected in your daughter today?
I was quite shy as a student, and my daughter was initially the same. With the encouragement of her teachers, her confidence has grown tremendously. She now expresses herself clearly and participates actively, which makes me very happy as a parent.
