Survey highlights surge in autonomous AI exploration

A recent Deloitte report reveals that over 80% of Indian organisations are actively exploring the development of autonomous AI agents, signalling a major shift towards Agentic AI adoption. These AI systems, designed to make independent decisions and take action, are becoming central to digital transformation across industries.

The fourth wave of Deloitte’s State of GenAI report (India perspective) highlights that 70% of businesses are keen to leverage Generative AI (GenAI) for automation. Furthermore, 61% of firms are engaged in more than 10 GenAI experiments, showcasing an accelerated pace of innovation and a growing investment in AI-driven initiatives.

Indian enterprises are already witnessing tangible benefits from AI integration. Nearly 70% of respondents reported that their AI deployments have met or exceeded return on investment (ROI) expectations, with more than 67% acknowledging positive impacts across the software development lifecycle.

Key departments leading AI adoption include IT, customer service, marketing, operations, and product development. However, scalability remains a concern—only 29% of businesses have successfully scaled up 30% of their AI proofs of concept.

Despite high interest, GenAI tool usage within organisations remains limited, with only 40% of employees with access actively engaging with the tools. Major concerns such as real-world errors (36%), algorithmic bias and hallucinations (30%), and data quality issues (30%) continue to hinder broader implementation.

Looking ahead, most organisations expect to overcome current challenges within 12–24 months, underscoring strong confidence in AI’s transformative potential.
