Innovation-driven learning is the need of the hour, especially in a world where technology and creativity go hand in hand. Events like Mega Tinkering Day inspire students to think beyond textbooks, nurture curiosity, and build problem-solving skills essential for the future.
Recently, the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) organised Mega Tinkering Day, a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting innovation and creativity among school students across India. The programme encouraged young learners to explore ideas, experiment with technology, and convert concepts into working models.
Apeejay School, Noida’s Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) joined the event with great enthusiasm, as 40 students from classes VI to XII came together to design and develop prototypes. Under the Prototype Development activity, students created three working models of vacuum cleaners. This hands-on project provided an excellent platform for learners to apply classroom knowledge in practical situations, transforming theories into tangible innovations.
The process not only enhanced technical skills but also nurtured critical soft skills. Working in groups encouraged collaboration, communication, and leadership among students. Every stage of the activity from brainstorming to designing and assembling the models reflected teamwork and collective problem-solving. Students explored different aspects of design thinking, computational thinking, and adaptive learning, which are key skills for becoming future-ready innovators.
What made the experience truly impactful was the emphasis on experiential learning. By engaging with real-world problems, students gained confidence in applying science and engineering concepts to create solutions that are both innovative and practical. The development of vacuum cleaner prototypes also highlighted their ability to identify everyday challenges and devise tools to make life easier.
The event was perfectly aligned with AIM’s vision of cultivating one million children in India as neoteric innovators. By inspiring students to think creatively and independently, the initiative laid the foundation for fostering entrepreneurship and innovation at the school level.
Overall, the Mega Tinkering Day was a resounding success. It not only provided students with a platform to showcase their creativity but also reinforced the School’s commitment to nurturing young minds into solution-oriented thinkers and leaders of tomorrow.
