As Day 3 and 4 of Skill Enhancement Week at Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, continued the focus shifted on helping young learners become more independent and expressive. After introducing hygiene and behaviour in the earlier days, the programme moved toward building self-help skills and confidence. These early lessons are designed to prepare children for everyday situations, both inside and outside the classroom. The first two days laid the groundwork through activities on cleanliness, personal care, and good manners, helping students connect daily habits with responsible behaviour in simple, practical ways.
Day 3: Independence through everyday tasks
Themed Smart Me, centred on simple yet important self-care skills. Pre-primary students took part in an activity that guided them through dressing on their own. They practiced wearing shirts, managing bottoms, and pulling on socks. These activities helped them understand basic independence in a practical setting.
Students of Classes I and II worked on organising their belongings through an activity called Travel Tidy. They learnt how to fold T shirts, bottoms, and towels neatly. This introduced them to the idea of keeping personal spaces organised, even while travelling or packing.
The day also included calligraphy and martial arts sessions. While calligraphy supported focus and fine motor skills, martial arts encouraged discipline and physical awareness. Teachers noted that combining physical and creative tasks helped maintain student interest while reinforcing learning.
Day 4: Confidence and positive expression
Day 4 shifted attention to confidence building and communication. Students were encouraged to speak about themselves in front of their peers. This gave them a chance to express their thoughts and build comfort while speaking in a group.
The pre-primary learners participated in a simple activity where they passed smiles to one another, creating a positive and friendly environment. Students of Classes I and II exchanged flowers with kind words written on them and spoke about each other in a positive way. This helped them understand appreciation and respect in a social setting.
Creative sessions such as origami in art class and a dance activity added balance to the day. These activities allowed students to express themselves freely while staying engaged.
Learning that extends beyond the classroom
The progression of activities over the week reflects a broader shift in early education. Schools are focusing not only on academic growth but also on life skills, self-awareness, and emotional development.
Overall, the Skill Enhancement Week at Apeejay School, Tanda Road continues to build these foundations, helping students grow into more confident and responsible individuals with time.
