Student Achievers: When passion took centre stage

The Inter-house Dance Competition at Apeejay School, Model Town, was a delightful celebration of rhythm, grace, and talent. Among the many energetic performers, three young dancers — Bhruvee Sabharwal, Ragya Goel, and Lovroop Kaur — stood out with their captivating moves. Here’s what they had to say about their inspiring dance journeys.

Bhruvee, who won the first prize under the semi-classical category at the Inter-house Dance Competition, shared that dancing is her passion and hobby. I am learning classical or semi-classical dance forms, inspired by my dance teacher. Whenever I have free time, I practice dance. Of course, sometimes I face challenges, but I still manage because dancing brings me happiness,” the Class III student shared.

For her, both expression and footwork are important aspects of dance, the eight-year-old added. “But if I had to choose, I find footwork the most exciting part to perfect. I try to convey happiness to the audience through eye contact and a smiling face. My biggest support in this journey has been my family and my teacher,” she said.

Ragya said that she was happy to have secured the second position in the Inter-house Dance Competition. “It feels like I can do a lot better next time and aim for the first position. I am a girl who loves to follow her passion, and my passion is doing creative things — especially dancing,” the Class VI student said.

And while this was not the first time performing on the stage, to manage her nerves, she simply prays to God and asks Him to help her give her best performance. “The moment I step onto the stage, I feel truly connected to the dance. My parents are the reason I pursued dance, and they continue to inspire me. My biggest source of inspiration is my dance coach, my tutor — she teaches me and motivates me every day,” she said.

Lovroop Kaur, a student of Class VI, who came third, said, “The basic idea behind my performance was to do my best and leave an impression. I have been learning dance for the last two years, and at present, in my third year of Kathak under the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai.”

Participating in the Inter-house Competition taught her the value of healthy competition and how to learn from her mistakes to do better next time. “I usually practice during weekends and for about 10 minutes every day. Yes, I am already exploring Kathak deeply and now, I plan to become even more serious about it,” she said in conclusion.
