In a world filled with distractions, reading remains one of the most powerful tools for self-improvement. The book ‘WHO MOVED MY CHEESE’ serves as a reminder of why books continue to hold such importance. Hello! My name is Nidhi and I work in Apeejay School, Model town, Jalandhar. I like to read books as I strongly believe that books have the power to shape minds, ignite imaginations, and open doors to endless possibilities.
I recently had the opportunity to read the book ‘Who Moved My Cheese?’ by Dr. Spencer Johnson, a book widely regarded as one of the most successful business books of all time, as noted by The Daily Telegraph. It provides a powerful perspective on dealing with change in both professional and personal life.
The story follows four characters- Sniff, Scurry, Hem, and Haw who navigate a maze in search of “cheese”. The cheese symbolizes the things we desire in life, such as a job, money, relationships, success, or even peace of mind. The maze represents the environments where we seek these things, like workplaces, communities, or personal relationships.
The book is divided into three sections:
1. A Class Reunion – Former classmates discuss the challenges of dealing with change in their lives.
2. The Story of Who Moved My Cheese – The core fable illustrates how different personalities react to change.
3. A Discussion – People reflect on the story’s meaning and how to apply its lessons to their own lives.
The key takeaway is that while not all change is good or necessary, in a constantly evolving world, learning to adapt and embrace change can help us find new opportunities and greater happiness. In the words of A.J. CRONIN
“Life is no straight and easy corridor along which we travel free and unhampered, but a maze of passages through which we must seek our way, lost and confused, now and again checked in a blind alley.
But always, if we have faith, a door will open for us not perhaps one that we ourselves would ever have thought of, but one that will ultimately prove good for us.”
In the end I will just say that if you are looking for a book that will change the way you think, then this book is the perfect choice. Its insights will stay with you long after you turn the last page. Happy Reading.
