Through an Inter-house activity, the students from classes VI to VIII of Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The young orators portrayed the work of the beloved scientist and former President of India, extraordinarily.
In a spectacular competition, every house had a student team that effectively produced the important milestones of Dr Kalam’s life. The participants spoke about everything from his humble origins in Rameswaram to his commitment to education and monumental contributions to India’s space and missile programmes. Through their speeches, students highlighted the role played by Dr Kalam in inspiring youngsters to dream big and help the nation.
The event epitomised the virtues Dr Kalam represented – modesty, passion, and determination. Students brought home to the audience his transformation from a small-town boy to India’s ‘Missile Man’, indicating opportunities for today’s youth.
According to Ms Harjeet Kaur, TGT, Mathematics, organising such activities plays a pivotal role in fostering creativity, and critical thinking among students. “These experiences go beyond textbooks, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-world situations, encouraging a holistic approach to education and building essential life skills,” the educator shared.
Healthy Competition to Foster Learning
The Inter-house event was competition-oriented yet provided a venting ground for the students to develop public speaking, teamwork, and self-confidence. In such an event, students came together to honour a common role model, thus developing a sense of belonging in them. The spirit of camaraderie was evident in all participants as each participant showed thorough preparation and respect for their peers.
A true tribute to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, one of India’s greatest visionaries, the event spoke of the scientific contribution he made while taking on his lessons from education and leadership. It placed its focus on how he said that youngsters should work to make their nation, and at the same time, learn all their lives.
