Principal’s Award: ‘The award reflects the trust my teachers place in me’

A student’s growth reaches its fullest potential when learning extends beyond the classroom. The Principal’s Award celebrates this spirit by honouring young achievers who balance academics with meaningful co-curricular pursuits, encouraging them to explore their talents and set an example for their peers. Meet Suhanya Johari, a Class VIII student at Apeejay School, Noida, the recipient of this year’s Principal’s Award.

In an impromptu interview, she shares what this award means to her personally, among other things.

Tell us about your academic and co-scholastic excellence over the years.

I’ve tried to stay sincere and consistent not only in my studies but also in other areas as well. Along with earning the Scholar Badge in academics, I also actively participated in sports, music, CodeWeek, creative writing, MUN, and various other extracurricular activities.

When your name came up, were you aware it was for the Principal’s Award?

No, not at all. I had an interaction with Vice-principal ma’am, but after that, I didn’t get any update; there must be other deserving students as well. So I was not at all sure that it was going to be me. Hearing my name was a complete surprise. It took me a moment to process it, and then I felt incredibly happy and grateful.

Does this award put extra responsibility on you?

Yes, it does. This award makes me feel responsible to continue working hard and staying true to my values. It reminds me that others believe in me, and I have to live up to that trust.

What does this award mean to you personally?

It means so much. It’s not just a trophy; it’s a symbol of my efforts, my dreams, and the faith my teachers and family have in me.

Who has played the strongest role in motivating you to reach this point?

My family, teachers and friends have been my biggest supporters. Their belief in me, their guidance, and their constant encouragement have pushed me forward even on days when I felt unsure.

Were there any moments in your school journey that shaped who you are today?

Yes, there were several moments. These moments included participating in competitions, handling failures, working in teams, and taking on responsibilities in school events. Each experience taught me something valuable and helped shape my confidence.

Going forward, how do you plan to uphold what this award stands for?

I plan to continue working diligently, stay disciplined, and participate actively in both academics and extracurricular activities. I want to inspire others the way I’ve been inspired and carry this responsibility with honesty and positivity.
