#Plant4Mother Campaign: Fostering a sense of environmental responsibility and awareness  

Recognising the importance of greener tomorrow, Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram in collaboration with the Forest Department, Government of Haryana, recently launched the  #Plant4Mother Campaign titled ‘एक पेड़ माँ के नाम’ अभियान’ .This campaign was launched by Prof. Vijay Vir Singh, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Apeejay Stya University.

The campaign aimed to promote environmental conservation by encouraging the planting of trees in the name of mothers, thereby symbolising nurturing and care.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with an enthusiastic sapling plantation drive on the ASU campus. The event saw active participation from Prof. (Dr.) Chetan Choudhary, Registrar of Apeejay Stya University, Deans and Heads of Schools including Prof. Anupama Diwan, Prof. Sanjay Ahirwal, Dr. TK Sahu with other faculty members, and more than 150 students, who all came together to plant saplings across the campus, and in adopted villages demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship.

Village Engagements: The plantation drive extended beyond the university campus, with ASU faculties Dr. Vijay Kumar, Dr. Amisha Vyas, Dr. Heena Jindal and Dr Surbhi with students from the School of Education visiting the adopted villages to continue the campaign. The saplings were planted at the following locations:

1.Senior Secondary School, Village Silani: More than 200 saplings were planted within the school premises, with the active support of the school’s Principal, Mr. Sachdeva. The involvement of students and staff highlighted the importance of creating a greener educational environment.

2.Temple and Shamshanghat, Village Khuntpuri: In Village Khuntpuri, the plantation drive focused on the local temple and shamshanghat (cremation ground). Village Sarpanch, Mr. Sunil, provided vital support, ensuring that the saplings were planted in areas that would benefit the entire community. 

3.Masjid, Village Kiranj: In Village Kiranj, the campaign continued with the planting of saplings around the masjid (mosque). Village Sarpanch, Mr. Liaqat, supported the initiative, facilitating community involvement and underscoring the campaign’s inclusive nature. Little girls and boys enthusiastically participated in it along with ASU students. 

4.Village Kheda Khalilpur: ASU faculty members also extended the plantation drive to Village Kheda Khalilpur, where they planted saplings in different parts of the village, further contributing to the campaign’s goal of widespread environmental impact.

Support and Collaboration: The success of the plantation drive in the adopted villages was made possible through the support of local leaders and community members:

• Village Silani: Principal Mr. Sachdeva provided essential support for the activities at the Senior Secondary School.

• Village Khuntpuri: Village Sarpanch Mr. Sunil facilitated the plantation drive, ensuring the community’s involvement at the temple and shamshanghat.

• Village Kiranj: Village Sarpanch Mr. Liaqat played a crucial role in organizing the sapling plantation around the masjid.

All in all, the #Plant4Mother campaign successfully fostered a sense of environmental responsibility and awareness among the participants. The theme “एक पेड़ माँ के नाम” (“A Tree in the Name of Mother”) resonated with all, emphasizing the significance of nurturing nature in a manner akin to a mother’s care. The active participation of students, faculty members, and community leaders across various locations highlighted the campaign’s impact and potential for long-term environmental benefits.

The event marked a significant step towards sustainable development and community engagement, setting a strong precedent for future initiatives. The campaign’s success will continue to inspire others to contribute to a greener environment by planting trees in honour of mothers everywhere.
