Behind every young achiever lies a supportive environment that fosters their growth and learning. In this conversation, Ms Manveen Kaur Wahid, mother of Agam Singh Wahid, a bright class VI student at Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, opens up about her son’s academic journey, his enthusiasm for debates and quizzes, and his love for Math and Science. She also shares how the school’s nurturing approach has been pivotal in shaping her son’s well-rounded development.
We heard Agam is a Science nerd, is it true?
Agam is doing well academically, especially in Math and Science, which are his favourite subjects. He has a sharp, logical mind and enjoys tackling complex problems. His Science teacher has been instrumental in building his understanding since class I. Her teaching style is unique — she incorporates activities and discussions instead of frequent tests, which helps the students learn without pressure. Agam particularly appreciates how she simplifies challenging concepts, even those that appear tricky in exams.
What are your son’s interests beyond the classroom?
Agam is an avid reader who loves delving into storybooks and newspapers, which broadens his knowledge and vocabulary. While he isn’t particularly competitive in sports, he enjoys swimming after school and participating in indoor games like table tennis and karate at school. He also takes part in extracurricular activities such as English and Hindi debates and quizzes, where he consistently performs well, often securing first or second positions.
How would you describe his school experience?
Agam is quite happy at the school. He feels comfortable and engaged in the learning environment provided by the teachers. The school nurtures his curiosity and gives him ample opportunities to explore various interests. He enjoys his classes and the sense of camaraderie among his peers. The balance between academic focus and extracurricular activities ensures that he looks forward to school each day.
Are you satisfied as a parent with the school’s efforts and leadership?
I am satisfied with the school. The teachers are dedicated and approachable, always ensuring the children receive the guidance they need. The Principal manages both the Mahavir Marg and Tanda Road branches, and she does an excellent job. She is always accessible and receptive to any concerns, which is reassuring for us as parents. Her leadership, combined with the efforts of the teaching staff, creates a positive and supportive atmosphere for the students.
