TalesOfTradition: “My heart and soul will always remain connected to this school”

For Mrs Ruchika Mehra, Apeejay School, Model Town is not just an institution, it is home. An alumna who has grown up within the Apeejay ecosystem and now a parent to two young learners, her journey beautifully blends nostalgia, trust and evolving education. In this edition of TalesOfTradition, she reflects on what it feels like to return to the same corridors, this time holding her child’s hand.

Read edited excerpts:

Your association with Apeejay spans decades. How did this journey begin?
My journey started right from nursery. In those days, the structure was such that nursery, KG1 and KG2 were at Mahavir Marg branch, Classes 1 to 5 at Model Town, and then again from Class 6 onwards at Mahavir Marg. I studied every class within the Apeejay system, completed my Class 10 from Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, and then pursued Commerce at Apeejay College of Fine Arts. Eventually, I completed my B.Com from there. Apeejay has literally shaped every academic phase of my life.

Did your connection with Apeejay continue beyond academics?
Absolutely. After completing my PGDBA in Finance – the only qualification outside Apeejay, I returned as a teacher at Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, Model Town in 2013–14. This year, I’ve joined Apeejay School, Model Town as an admission counsellor. Even while planning my family, Apeejay was always in my mind. It’s in my bloodstream, my entire family is connected to Apeejay in some way.

How does it feel to walk into the same school now as a parent?
It gives me goosebumps every single time. I feel immense pride seeing my children receive even more opportunities than I did. Apeejay always focused on holistic development, but today, the exposure is on another level. The Model Town branch is doing a truly fantastic job, and that’s one reason I wanted to work here – to help more families experience this environment.

Tell us about your children studying here.
My elder daughter, Reet Mehra, is in Class 6B. She’s doing very well academically and actively participates in school activities. For me, she’s a superstar—both in my eyes and her teachers’. My younger daughter, Renne Mehra, is in nursery at Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld, Model Town. Watching both of them grow confidently here reassures me every day.

As an alumna, what gave you confidence in choosing the same school for your children?
Trust and safety. The warmth you feel when you enter the school, the smiles, the openness—it’s unmatched. Academics are strong everywhere today, but the kind of development I wanted for my children, I found only here. They’re encouraged to explore beyond textbooks because the school already covers so much within the curriculum.

If you had to describe Apeejay School, Model Town in one sentence?
A fantabulous school that has given my children 100% more than I ever expected—and that’s why my heart and soul will always remain connected to it.
