“My father discovered AIMC in a magazine listing top colleges in India”

Stepping into the corporate world right after completing higher education can be daunting, but for Manika Jain, an alumna of Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC), the transition was seamless. With a Postgraduate Diploma in Corporate Communication and Event Management, Manika currently works as a Senior Account Executive – Activations at Communique India. In this insightful conversation, she shares how AIMC shaped her skills and prepared her for the fast-paced event and communication industry.

What does your current role at Communique India entail?

I joined Communique India in January, and as a Senior Account Executive – Activations, my role revolves around client servicing. I, along with my senior, handle client requirements, coordinate with internal teams—whether it’s the operations or creative department—and ensure the smooth execution of campaigns. It’s a 360-degree involvement, which makes every project exciting and dynamic.

How did AIMC prepare you for this industry?

My experience at AIMC was amazing. The one-year program went by so fast, but it gave me hands-on exposure. I got an opportunity to shadow a wedding planning company, which provided real insights into how the event industry operates. Additionally, AIMC’s brand case study projects made me feel like I was already working in client servicing before even stepping into the corporate world.

Can you tell us about your placement journey?

I was fortunate to shadow the CEO (or co-founder) of Weddingline Events & Hospitality Pvt. Ltd., where I observed everything – from planning to execution and closure of events. Later, I secured my placement at Workaholics Entertainment Solutions Pvt. Ltd and the experience there ultimately led me to Communique India, where I am truly happy and thriving.

What motivated you to choose AIMC?

My father discovered AIMC through a magazine listing top colleges in India. At that time, I was looking for a program that would offer practical learning, not just theoretical knowledge. I wanted to work in an industry that allowed me to travel and engage with people, and AIMC provided the perfect launchpad.

What are some key skills you developed at AIMC?

Communication was a major one. Coming out of COVID, even basic conversations were challenging. However, AIMC’s year-long case study projects required multiple presentations, which significantly boosted my confidence in public speaking and idea presentation. In the event and client servicing industry, knowing how to package and present ideas is crucial. I also honed my skills in making PowerPoint presentations, which has been incredibly beneficial in my current role.
