Celebrating Independence Day in schools serves as an important reminder of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters who laid down their lives to secure the nation’s freedom. It helps students understand the historical context of India’s struggle for independence and the value of the liberties they enjoy today. Through speeches, skits, and other activities, students learn about the pivotal moments in India’s history, the leaders who played crucial roles, and the enduring principles of justice, equality, and democracy that the nation stands on.
To inculcate a patriotic sense amongst the students, the pre-primary students of Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, began the week with an exuberant celebration in honour of Independence Day. The young learners from pre-nursery, nursery, LKG, and UKG participated in a special event that beautifully blended patriotism with creativity through a Tricolour-themed culinary experience.
Dressed in outfits that proudly reflected the vibrant saffron, white, and green colours of the Indian flag, the students of the school radiated joy and excitement, fully embracing the festive atmosphere. This celebration provided a meaningful way for them to express their love for the nation while also introducing them to the significance of the tricolour, which represents unity, peace, and growth.
The highlight of the day was the delicious Tricolour-themed food, carefully prepared to symbolise the Indian flag. The menu featured an array of dishes that not only appealed to the young palates but also reinforced the theme of the day, with saffron, white, and green hues beautifully represented in the food. The students relished these treats, adding a flavourful touch to their celebration and making the event memorable.
This engaging and educational celebration allowed the young students to connect with their cultural heritage, fostering a sense of pride and belonging from an early age.
The celebration not only educates students about the nation’s history and values but also unites them in a shared experience of pride and love for their country. As students take part in these celebrations, they are reminded of their role in preserving the nation’s freedom and contributing to its future.
