Little Masterpieces: The Artistic Journey of Sanaya Ali

Student of Apeejay School International (ASI), Panchsheel Park Sanaya Ali is an artist with immense potential. Take a look at her Van Gogh-style paintings or her recent Lionel Messi sketch, and it’s hard to believe a 7-year-old created them. However, like all great artists, Sanaya is also a person of few words as she lets her artworks do the talking.

Selected as this week’s Apeejay Aspiring Artist, let’s read what this young talent has to say about her craft. Read edited excerpts:

Sanaya, when did you start drawing?
I’ve been drawing since I was 3 years old! I started when I was just a little playschool student.

Now that is inspiring but what inspired you to start drawing?
I got inspired by a YouTube channel called Serena Art. I watched her videos all the time and tried to copy her work. That’s the reason why I jumped right into acrylics! But now, I’m also learning sketching, crafts, and everything in between.

So, how long does it take you to finish one painting?
It usually takes me about an hour because I like to add a lot of details.

And which are your favorite art forms?
Craft work and sketching are my absolute favorites.

Can you tell us about some of your best sketches then?
Sure! I’m working on a sketch of my favourite football player Lionel Messi right now, with just one eye left to finish. I’ve also made sketches of Billie Eilish and Mario, the cartoon character.

That’s excellent! Now do tell us how your school encourages artistic talents  like you?
I really love the art period at school and we are taught some amazing things there. But, honestly, I love the football period even more!

We are sure you do! So, what’s your next project in mind?
I want to learn sculpture next. That’s my next big challenge!
