Cracking the JEE Advanced 2025 exam is no small feat, especially when it stands as one of the toughest engineering entrance tests in India. Two students from Apeejay School, Nerul – Akshat Mehta and Kaamil Verma – have made the cut, and their journeys offer valuable insights into how to crack JEE Advanced, bust common myths, and build effective strategies.
“Qualifying JEE Advanced made me feel proud,” shares Akshat Mehta, who plans to pursue Electrical Engineering at an NIT through the JEE Advanced 2025 counselling process. He believes that one of the biggest myths around the exam is that questions go beyond the prescribed JEE Advanced 2025 syllabus. “Everything is within the syllabus. Just trust your preparation,” he says, adding that NCERT was his main study resource, along with reference books like H.C. Verma and Cengage for Physics.
Akshat followed a consistent strategy across subjects – first focusing on theory, then moving to practice problems, beginning with board-level and progressing to Advanced-level questions. “Mathematics demands the most attention, especially compared to JEE Mains,” he reveals. According to him, JEE Advanced vs JEE Main is a significant shift: “For Mains, memorising formulas works. For Advanced, you need deep conceptual clarity.” What excites him about joining an NIT is the opportunity to be part of a diverse and talented student community.
For Kaamil Verma, who aims to take up Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering in an IIT, the result was “not too bad.” He busts the myth that one must start JEE prep very early. “There’s no fixed timeline. People have cracked IIT in 2 years, some in 5. It’s about consistency,” he shares.
Kaamil credits I.E. Irodov for Physics, M.S. Chauhan for Chemistry, and Cengage for Mathematics as his game-changing resources. “Physics was my strongest subject, but it needed the most attention in Advanced prep because the level jumps drastically,” he says. While Chemistry was theory-heavy, Math for him was all about relentless practice. Comparing the exams, he reflects, “JEE Advanced exam pattern 2025 requires selective, smart study. It’s more intellectually engaging than Mains, which felt repetitive.”
