Indian jobseekers lead AI revolution in CV creation: Canva report

A recent report by Canva reveals that 87% of job seekers in India have turned to generative AI for assistance in creating or improving their resumes. The study also highlights that 95% of hiring managers in the country believe AI significantly streamlines the onboarding process.

In 2024 alone, over 390 million resumes were created on Canva as professionals worldwide sought more creative ways to boost their chances of landing a job. The report is based on a survey conducted by Sago, which included responses from 4,200 hiring managers and 6,000 job seekers across the US, UK, Australia, India, Germany, Spain, France, Mexico, Brazil, and Japan.

According to the findings, those who use emerging tools like AI and digital design to craft strong professional brands are more likely to stand out. Among the job seekers surveyed, 87% have used generative AI to either update or create new resumes. The survey found that 80% of these respondents saved time using AI, 79% felt it made their work easier, and 76% experienced a boost in creativity. On the hiring side, 69% of managers expressed openness to candidates using AI for job applications. However, 65% of hiring managers felt that AI could make it harder for candidates to stand out and emphasised the need for disclosure.

Notably, Indian job seekers are leading the way in using AI-enhanced applications. Sixty-three per cent of Indian candidates consistently use AI to customise their resumes, a higher percentage than in other countries. Additionally, 84% of Indian job seekers consider design skills essential to standing out in a new role.

The report also points to a shift in hiring trends, with 79% of hiring managers predicting the obsolescence of traditional text-based resumes. An even greater 83% favour digital portfolios, with 69% preferring resumes that incorporate visual elements, and 77% expressing a preference for interactive features. This highlights the increasing demand for creativity and innovation in job applications, with AI and digital tools playing a significant role in reshaping the hiring process.
