‘I love to bring sunsets to life through colours’

With every brushstroke, she transforms a blank canvas into vivid worlds, capturing the essence of emotions, nature, and human experience. Her art doesn’t just represent life; it reimagines it, offering new perspectives and stirring the soul. Meet the master behind the paintbrush, Ayushi, who is studying in Class XI at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg. In a candid interview, she shares how she breathes emotion, movement, and meaning into still images.

Tell us about your experience.

It honestly felt unreal to win at the district level. I didn’t expect it because so many talented students were there, but it gave me a lot of confidence that my art could actually stand out.

What did you draw, and how did the idea come about?

I drew the scenic beauty of sunset as golden hours are my favourite part of the day, so I took it as an inspiration for my painting. Sunsets have always been calming and relaxing for me.

Who is your inspiration behind pursuing painting?

My inspiration mostly comes from my mother. She’s not a professional painter, but she always encouraged me to try new things and express myself. Also, some artists on Instagram inspire me because they create from their hearts without worrying about perfection.

How has painting honed your personality?

Painting has definitely made me more patient. Earlier, I used to rush through things, but art teaches you to slow down and look at details. It has also helped me express emotions better.

How did the school support your journey?

Apeejay School gave me a lot of opportunities to take part in competitions and showcase my work. My teachers guided me and always motivated me to push myself. Without that support, I don’t think I would’ve had the confidence to even participate at the district level.

Who is your favourite painter and why?

I admire Vincent van Gogh because his art feels so alive and emotional. He painted what he felt, not just what he saw. It makes me believe that imperfections can also be beautiful.

What do colours truly mean to you?

For me, colours are like a language. Each colour has its own mood and energy. Painting with them is like telling a story without words — it’s freedom, it is self-expression, and sometimes it’s also healing.
