‘I don’t realise how time passes by when I paint’

Sharon is a class 12 student at Apeejay School, Saket. She is a brilliant student artist who is immensely inspired by the works of Da Vinci and Van Gogh.

Selected as this week’s Apeejay Aspiring Artist, the young painter talks about her love for canvas art, how time passes by in the blink of an eye as she paints and more in a delightful conversation. Edited excerpts:

Sharon, tell us how drawing came into your life?

I started drawing when I was in class 8 and it just clicked. Something happened inside me and I was drawn to this enchanting world of colours.

That’s magical. So which art form resonates most with you?

I like the expressionism form of painting the most. It plays well with the contrasts and the blendings and I feel very inspired to practice it.

And how does your school Apeejay Saket encourage you?

The school helps me to develop my artistic talent by giving me the opportunity to participate in various competitions and events. The teachers always motivate us to cultivate our gifts.

What is your definition of art?

Art for me is not just painting, it is an expression, feeling and a pure emotion. Time passes so easily as I start working on an art piece. It is magical, I feel more present and alive than ever while working on art work.

But how much time does it take you to complete an artwork?

Till now my biggest canvas painting of Lord Gautam Buddha took some 4-5 days to be completed. I am much more into objective paintings rather than human figures. As I said, I don’t feel time passing by as I work on art.

2 artists you look up to?

Leonardo da Vinci and Vincent van Gogh!

We are excited to know about your upcoming works?

Planning to make more big canvas paintings!

Any plans to learn a new art form?

Abstract impression! It is so beautiful!

Lastly, what about you away from the world of art?

I play basketball as part of the school team.  I can play instruments, dance is my passion and I have represented the school in both these fields in various competitions.
