Read edited excerpts of her interview:
What inspired you to choose law as a career, and how has your experience at Apeejay Stya University shaped that passion?
I chose law as a career because I want to help poor and marginalised people, particularly women who suffer injustice and often have no one to support them legally. The law gives us the power to protect rights and ensure justice. My journey at Apeejay Stya University has strengthened this passion by providing a platform where academic learning is combined with social responsibility. The university encourages us to think beyond books and understand the real purpose of law.
Can you share how the university is helping you develop practical legal skills?
Apeejay Stya University focuses strongly on practical legal education. The university regularly organises moot court competitions, client counselling competitions, court visits, and institutional visits, such as to the Human Rights Commission.Through moot courts, I have learned legal research, drafting, and courtroom advocacy. Client counselling competitions have helped me understand client interaction, problem-solving, and ethical responsibilities while significantly improving my communication and interpersonal skills.
Which learning experiences—moot courts, workshops, or field assignments—have been the most impactful in your journey so far?
Among all learning experiences, moot courts and client counselling competitions have been the most impactful for me. They provide hands-on exposure to real-life legal situations and help in building confidence. Additionally, court visits and visits to legal institutions like the Human Rights Commission have given me valuable insights into judicial processes and human rights protection. These experiences bridge the gap between theory and practice.
What do you like the most about the legal field? How are you preparing yourself for your professional journey?
What I admire most about the legal field is its ability to protect the rights of people and bring justice to those who cannot fight for themselves. The law empowers us to challenge injustice and support vulnerable sections of society. To prepare myself professionally, I focus on my favourite subjects—Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, and Family Law—and actively participate in moot courts, client counselling competitions, seminars, and practical training programs to enhance my legal knowledge and communication skills.
According to you, what are the key skills budding lawyers need to develop?
In my view, budding lawyers must develop Strong legal research and analytical skills, Effective communication and advocacy skills, Client-handling and counselling abilities, Ethical values and empathy, as well as Confidence and professionalism. These skills are essential for becoming successful and responsible legal professionals.
What are your future aspirations? How are your mentors at Apeejay helping you nurture key skills?
My future aspiration is to become a successful lawyer who can provide legal assistance to poor and underprivileged people, especially women who face injustice and lack support. The mentors at Apeejay Stya University continuously guide and motivate us through academic support, practical exposure, and personal mentoring. The university provides an affordable and encouraging platform where students like me can develop essential legal skills and work towards fulfilling their dreams.
