Google unveils nine AI learning tools to redefine education

Google has introduced nine new and updated AI-powered learning tools designed to transform how students study and interact with knowledge. The company’s new position paper, AI and the Future of Learning, highlights how artificial intelligence can foster curiosity, creativity, and deeper understanding rather than simply offering quick answers.

Emphasising India’s growing leadership in adopting AI for education, Google said its tools are built on principles of learning science to make studying more engaging and effective. The upgrades span three major platforms — Gemini, NotebookLM, and Search, each introducing innovative features that make learning more interactive and personalised.

In Gemini, the Guided Learning feature enables students to explore complex problems through adaptive explanations and multimodal responses. Smart Prep Tools let users create flashcards, study guides, and quizzes directly from text or handwritten notes, while Gemini Live allows real-time voice and camera interaction to talk through problems, including math equations.

NotebookLM enhances study and research by converting uploaded material into narrated summaries in multiple Indian languages. It can also generate Video Overviews using Gemini’s image model, create Mind Maps for better organisation, and automatically produce flashcards, quizzes, and tailored study guides.

On Google Search, students can now use Lens in AI Mode to ask questions about visuals, diagrams, or handwritten material in several Indian languages. Another feature, Search Live, offers instant, contextual help through a combination of voice and camera input, available initially in English and Hindi.

Through these advancements, Google aims to make AI a companion in learning—encouraging exploration, independent thinking, and confidence among students across India and beyond.
