Google has expanded the creative capabilities of its Gemini app with the beta launch of Lyria 3, its most advanced generative music model developed by Google DeepMind. The new feature enables users to create 30-second music tracks using simple text prompts or even images and videos, marking the company’s next step in AI-powered creative expression.
With Lyria 3 integrated into the Gemini app, users can generate complete tracks in seconds without writing their own lyrics. The model automatically creates lyrics based on the prompt and offers greater control over musical elements such as style, vocals and tempo. It also produces more realistic and musically complex compositions compared to earlier versions.
Users can generate music by describing a genre, mood, memory or concept, or by uploading photos and videos for inspiration. The app analyses the visual content and composes a track that matches its tone and theme. Each 30-second track is accompanied by custom cover art generated by Nano Banana, making it easy to download or share via link. The feature is designed to offer a fun and personalised soundtrack experience rather than produce full-length professional compositions.
Beyond the Gemini app, creators can also explore Lyria 3 through YouTube’s Dream Track feature, which is rolling out beyond the United States. The upgraded model enhances Shorts soundtracks, allowing creators to generate lyrical verses or background tracks tailored to their content.
To promote responsible AI use, all generated tracks are embedded with SynthID, Google’s invisible watermark for AI-generated content. The Gemini app also includes expanded verification tools that can check audio files for SynthID markers.
Google emphasised that Lyria 3 is built for original expression and not for replicating specific artists, with safeguards and reporting mechanisms in place to address potential copyright concerns.
Lyria 3 is now available in English and several other major languages for users aged 18 and above, with broader language support planned.
