Future designers explore trends via an educational trip

The Department of Interior Design at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar organised an educational visit to Lovely Marbles & Sanitation to give students practical exposure to the wide range of materials used in interior decoration. The visit was designed to help students understand how theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom can be effectively applied in real-world interior design projects. A total of 35 students from the department participated in the visit.

During the visit, students were introduced to a diverse selection of interior design materials, including marble, granite, tiles, sanitary ware, modular kitchen fittings, and various modern finishing materials commonly used in contemporary interiors. The exposure helped students gain a deeper understanding of the functional and aesthetic aspects of these materials, as well as their practical applications in residential and commercial spaces.

The session provided valuable insights into the process of selecting appropriate materials for different interior environments. Students learned about factors such as durability, texture, colour coordination, maintenance, and cost considerations that influence the choice of materials in interior design projects. The visit also helped them understand how these materials contribute to enhancing the overall design and functionality of interior spaces.

Another important aspect of the visit was the opportunity for students to explore emerging trends and innovations in the interior design industry. They were introduced to modern design solutions and contemporary finishing techniques that are increasingly being used in homes, offices, and commercial establishments. Such exposure allowed students to expand their understanding of current market preferences and evolving design practices.

A key highlight of the visit was the interaction with industry experts at the showroom. The professionals shared practical knowledge about the latest techniques and best practices used in interior decoration. Through demonstrations and discussions, students gained hands-on insights into material handling, installation methods, and the practical challenges faced during the execution of interior projects. The interactive session also allowed students to ask questions and clarify their doubts, making the learning experience more engaging and meaningful.

Appreciating the initiative, Neerja Dhingra, Principal of the college, emphasised the importance of experiential learning in design education. She stated that educational visits play a crucial role in bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and practical exposure. According to her, such activities enable students to connect more effectively with their subject and develop a better understanding of professional practices in the field.

Dr. Dhingra also reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to organising similar academic and industry-oriented activities that contribute to the holistic development of students and enhance their practical skills.

She further appreciated the efforts of the faculty members, Rajni Kumar and Harshita Arora, for successfully organising the educational visit and ensuring a valuable learning experience for the students.

The visit proved to be highly informative and enriching, providing students with meaningful exposure to the materials, techniques, and trends that shape the contemporary interior design industry.
