Research was never my first passion. When I first stepped into Apeejay Stya University, my focus was on completing my degree. Yet, the university’s research-centric environment, guided by visionary faculty, opened doors I had never imagined. It was here that Ms. Neha Thakur and Dr. Akanksha Singh recognized potential in me I had not yet seen myself. With their guidance, I authored a research paper, contributed to a national-level book chapter, and published in the international journal Taylor & Francis.
Balancing a full-time job, ACCA studies, and M.Com alongside these academic endeavors was challenging, but these opportunities shaped my discipline, resilience, and curiosity. Recently, another chapter of mine, Transgenders and Inclusivity in Society: Opportunities and Challenges, was selected for publication, and I am currently working on a research paper on GST. These milestones remind me that persistence, mentorship, and a supportive environment can transform initial reluctance into recognition.
This journey also highlighted the importance of personal support. My close friend Manya consistently encouraged me through moments of doubt, helping me maintain focus and confidence. Her guidance, coupled with faculty support, reinforced that growth is rarely a solo journey. Collaboration, mentorship, and belief in one’s potential are as important as hard work itself.
For students, young professionals, or anyone stepping into research, my experience underscores a few key principles. First, never underestimate the power of guidance; mentors can help you unlock capabilities you may not yet realize. Second, maintain balance; managing work, studies, and research requires organization, discipline, and patience. Third, embrace persistence; rejection or delay does not mean failure. Every challenge is a lesson, every opportunity a stepping stone.
I am deeply grateful to Apeejay Stya University and its faculty for nurturing my growth, and to Manya for being a steadfast support. These experiences have not only expanded my academic horizons but have instilled confidence to take on complex, interdisciplinary projects in the future.
Through mentorship, dedication, and persistence, research can become not just a task, but a transformative journey—shaping skills, character, and vision for life beyond the classroom.
