From Doubt to Hope: Using Media for a Purpose

Mira (a young 20 -year-old girl) sat on her bed scrolling through her phone. She looked at her friends’ photos and sighed. “Look at this!” she said to herself. “Why do they get everything, and I have just… this?”

Her mom knocked and peeked inside. “Mira, what’s wrong?” she asked.

“Nothing, Mom,” Mira said, trying to hide her tears. “I just wish I had more.”

Her mom smiled gently. “Mira, you have more than you think. Look around you.”

But Mira didn’t see it. All she could think about was how her friends seemed happier with their exciting lives. One day, everything changed.

It was raining heavily, and Mira couldn’t go home. She went to her maid Priya’s house, which was just a short walk away. The room was small, and water was coming in from the walls. Priya was busy wiping the floor as her kids played in the rain, laughing and having fun.

“Priya, how are you so happy even with so little?” Mira asked, surprised.

Priya looked at her and smiled. “Happiness isn’t about what you have, Mira. It’s about being thankful for what you have.”

Mira felt something inside her. She watched Priya’s kids playing in the rain and laughing, even though they didn’t have much. That night, Mira realised that real happiness wasn’t about having fancy things. It was about being happy with what you have.

The next day, Mira picked up her phone and recorded a video. “Hi, everyone. I want to tell you something I saw yesterday…” she started.

At first, her voice was shaky, but she shared the story of Priya’s family and their struggles. The post got a lot of attention. People left comments saying, “This is important,” “We should help,” and “Thank you for showing this.”

A week later, Mira stood with Priya outside their small home. The house was now full of donations. “Thank you, Mira,” Priya said, her eyes bright with gratitude.

Mira smiled and said, “No, thank you for showing me that happiness isn’t about what we have, but how we share it.”

The community came together to help. Volunteers fixed the house, and neighbours supported Priya’s family. Mira learned that social media wasn’t just for looking at other people’s lives; it could be used to connect, inspire, and make a real difference.

Mira realised that youth and media, when used for good, have the power to change lives.
