Daughters are our precious gifts. Let’s create an atmosphere of love, peace, and equality for them
Celebrating events like International Day of the Girl Child is essential for school students. It raises awareness about gender equality, the importance of girls’ education, and their health and hygiene. These activities inspire young minds to understand societal challenges, recognise the significance of equal opportunities, and encourage them to become advocates for change in building a more inclusive world.
Apeejay School, Noida, celebrated International Day of the Girl Child, to highlight the importance of girl child empowerment. The event aimed to increase awareness about girls’ education, health, hygiene, and gender equality, aligning with the global message of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to protect and promote the rights of young girls worldwide.
The event featured a keynote address by eminent speaker Dr Priyanka Chaudhary, who emphasised the need for young girls to grow into empowered women. She discussed how access to proper healthcare, skill-based learning facilities, and equal opportunities can help create a world free from gender-based violence and discrimination.
Dr Chaudhary shed light on the importance of Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) programmes, which equip girls with the skills and confidence to overcome real-world obstacles. She passionately reiterated that adolescent girls deserve a safe, educated, and healthy life not just during their formative years but also as they mature into empowered women.
The school’s Principal, Ms Ritu Kohli, and Primary In-charge, Mrs Smriti Samuel, addressed the students, reiterating the importance of gender equality. Ms. Kohli emphasised, “A girl child is a pride and a part of the nation’s future. Empowering the girl child means empowering the nation.” She highlighted that every girl has untapped potential and the need to nurture their sense of self-worth. Mrs Samuel echoed similar sentiments, stating that empowering girls is integral to building a better future for the country.
“Organizing and celebrating the International Day of the Girl Child at our school was a deeply fulfilling experience. It was inspiring to see the students’ enthusiasm and creativity come alive in support of such an important cause. Empowering young girls and raising awareness of their potential felt like a step towards a brighter, more inclusive future.” Ms Kamna Dang, PRT.
The event was followed by an informative session on Health Education of Menstrual Hygiene, conducted by Dr Chaudhary. Separate sessions were organised for boys and girls, ensuring a comfortable environment for learning and understanding. Dr Chaudhary sensitised the girl-students towards menstrual hygiene, encouraging them to embrace the natural changes in their bodies. This session empowered students by imparting critical knowledge about health and hygiene, aligning with the overall objective of creating a supportive and informed environment.
Overall, the event at Apeejay School, Noida, was an enriching experience for all the participants, encouraging the students to take pride in their identities, while fostering a culture of inclusivity, awareness, and empowerment.
