 Embracing wellness through Surya Namaskar

As part of the Statewide Surya Namaskar Abhiyan–2026, the Yoga and Meditation Club and Counselling Centre of Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurugram successfully organised a Surya Namaskar Programme at the university campus. The initiative was conducted in alignment with the statewide campaign led by Haryana Yog Aayog and the Department of AYUSH Haryana, aiming to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and holistic health practices across educational institutions.

The session was conducted under the expert guidance of yoga instructors from the Department of AYUSH, Gurugram. The programme commenced with preparatory warm-up exercises designed to enhance flexibility and prevent strain. Participants were then guided through the systematic practice of Surya Namaskar, with detailed instructions on maintaining correct posture alignment, synchronising breath with movement, and cultivating mindfulness throughout the sequence.

The instructors emphasised the scientific and therapeutic benefits of Surya Namaskar as a comprehensive yogic practice. They highlighted its role in improving strength, stamina, and concentration while also supporting stress management and emotional balance. Special attention was given to breathing techniques and the importance of awareness in every movement, reinforcing yoga as not merely a physical exercise but a holistic discipline integrating body and mind.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, and administrative staff, reflecting the university community’s collective commitment to wellness-oriented initiatives. The serene campus environment further enhanced the experience, enabling participants to engage in the practice with focus and positivity.

The program also resonated strongly with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which advocates holistic development, experiential learning, and preventive mental health care within academic institutions. By integrating wellness activities into campus life, Apeejay Stya University continues to promote balanced growth alongside academic excellence.

The Surya Namaskar Program served as a meaningful reminder of the importance of incorporating mindful practices into daily routines. It encouraged participants to adopt yoga as a sustainable lifestyle habit that nurtures resilience, clarity, and overall well-being.

Through this initiative, Apeejay Stya University reaffirmed its dedication to creating a healthy, balanced, and mindful academic ecosystem. The successful execution of the event not only supported the broader goals of the Surya Namaskar Abhiyan–2026 but also strengthened the university’s ongoing efforts to foster a culture of wellness, discipline, and community engagement.
