How did you feel when you heard that you had won second prize in the Peace Writing Contest?

I felt incredibly happy, proud, and thankful when I learnt that I had secured second prize in the Peace Writing Contest 2025. It was a beautiful moment of surprise and delight that strengthened my confidence, encouraged me to keep writing, and inspired me to trust my abilities and chase bigger dreams fearlessly ahead.

What inspired you to participate in this contest?

I felt motivated to participate in this contest because I truly believe that young voices have the power to promote peace. Rotary’s theme inspired me to share my ideas about harmony, kindness, and understanding. I wished to make a positive contribution and express how peace begins with small, meaningful actions in our everyday lives, all around us.

What does the word peace mean to you personally?

Peace, to me, signifies a state of understanding, respect, and inner calmness within oneself and with others. It is not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of empathy, compassion, and acceptance. True peace begins in our thoughts and is reflected through our actions toward society, humanity, and a brighter future.

How has your school supported you?

The school has always supported me by encouraging active participation in competitions and fostering creativity. My teachers guided me at every step, motivated me constantly, and offered valuable feedback. The positive and nurturing environment of my school helped me build confidence, trust my ideas, and believe that my efforts truly matter, allowing me to grow continuously as a responsible and thoughtful student.

What was the topic or theme of your piece?

The theme of my piece centered on building an atmosphere of peace through understanding, tolerance, and compassion. I wrote about how peace begins within individuals and gradually spreads to society when people choose dialogue over conflict and kindness over hatred, creating a harmonious, respectful, and united world for everyone, everywhere.

How did you plan your write-up?

Before writing, I spent time brainstorming ideas and reflecting on my personal experiences. I did not depend heavily on research; instead, I chose to write straight from the heart. This approach helped me remain honest and emotionally connected to the message I wanted to convey clearly, sincerely, and with a truly meaningful purpose and lasting impact.

Did you face any challenges while expressing your thoughts?

Yes, I faced challenges while organising my thoughts and selecting the right words. At times, it was difficult to express deep emotions clearly. I overcame this by revising my work, staying patient, and concentrating on the core message of peace I wanted to share with honesty, clarity, empathy, balance, confidence, and hope.

Do you think creative writing can help spread messages like peace and harmony? How?

I strongly believe that creative writing can spread powerful messages of peace and harmony. Words have the ability to influence both minds and hearts. Through stories and poems, writers can inspire empathy, understanding, and meaningful change, encouraging people to reflect, connect, and choose peaceful solutions for a more inclusive, compassionate, and united society.

If peace were a colour or a symbol, what would it be and why?

It has to be be white, symbolising purity, calmness, and unity. White represents harmony and balance, free from divisions. As a symbol, a dove also stands for peace, hope, and new beginnings, reminding us that peace is gentle yet powerful and deeply meaningful for humanity’s shared future together.
