‘Content is king, community is queen, is the rule to empower any brand’

Behind every scroll-stopping post, viral campaign, and engaging brand voice is her professional expertise that turns ideas into impact. Meet Aparna Mudi, an alumna of Apeejay School, Noida, who graduated in 2000. In a candid interview, she shares how to turn clicks into conversations and visitors into loyal customers.

What are you pursuing professionally now?

I’m working at the intersection of growth strategy, leadership coaching, and content marketing, primarily with start-ups and creative businesses. After spending over a decade in digital journalism, teaching, and leading teams, I’m now focused on helping brands grow meaningfully, not just chasing vanity metrics, but building genuine connections with their audiences. I’m also passionate about mentoring young professionals and start-up founders on leadership, personal branding, and strategic decision-making.

How has digital marketing and content creation revolutionised the industry?

It’s made the playing field more democratic. Earlier, only big companies with massive ad budgets could make a mark. Today, with good content and smart digital strategies, even small start-ups and solopreneurs can build powerful brands. It’s no longer just about what you sell — it’s about the stories you tell and how you build trust and community online.

What are the recent trends in digital marketing and content creation?

A few key ones stand out: Brands are focusing on niche audiences rather than mass reach. Reels, Shorts, and live sessions are driving engagement. Audiences prefer real, relatable content over overly curated posts. Marketing is becoming smarter — content and ads that feel tailored to individual users.

How has AI redefined this segment?

I know there’s a lot of anxiety — people worry AI will take away jobs. But honestly, this is similar to the fear we saw during the Internet boom. The real opportunity is for those who know what to do with AI. It’s enabling people with great ideas to communicate and pitch their vision more effectively. AI is a fantastic enabler, but creativity, strategy, and empathy still come from us.

Share your favourite nostalgia from school.

One of my favourite memories is that buzz just before morning assembly — when we’d share tiffin bits, swap silly jokes, or help each other with last-minute homework. Apeejay School was where I truly learnt the value of friendship and community. I also loved being part of the cultural clubs, leading assemblies, and singing at inter-school competitions.

Any life hack message for the school kids.

Don’t be afraid to explore and fail. The world is changing faster than ever — the best thing you can do is stay curious, ask questions, and not worry too much about getting everything “right” the first time. Also, be kind to yourself and others. It will come back to you in the most glorious ways.
