CBSE Issues Fresh Guidelines on Public Disclosure of Academic, Staff and Infrastructure Details

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed all affiliated schools to ensure greater transparency by making key academic, administrative, and infrastructural details publicly available on their official websites. The instructions were issued through a recent circular aimed at strengthening accountability and informed decision-making for parents and stakeholders.

As per the directive, schools must display comprehensive information including their fee structure, annual academic calendar, and details of statutory bodies such as the School Management Committee (SMC) and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Institutions have also been asked to publish Class X and Class XII board examination results for the last three academic years, along with data on the number of registered students, pass percentages, and year-wise remarks.

The board has emphasised the need for transparency in staffing patterns. Schools are required to disclose the total strength and qualifications of teaching staff, covering principals, vice-principals, head teachers, post graduate teachers (PGTs), trained graduate teachers (TGTs), and primary teachers (PRTs). Information about special educators, counsellors, and wellness teachers must also be made available. CBSE reiterated that the pupil–teacher ratio should not exceed 30:1 and that each section must have a minimum of 1.5 teachers, excluding the principal, physical education teacher, and counsellor.

Further, CBSE has reminded schools that maintaining an updated and functional website is mandatory. Institutions must upload self-attested documents such as affiliation and renewal letters, trust or society registration certificates, Right to Education (RTE) recognition, building safety and fire safety certificates, sanitation and drinking water certificates, and the District Education Officer (DEO) certificate or self-certification.

Infrastructure-related disclosures should include details of campus area, classrooms, laboratories, libraries, internet facilities, toilets including those accessible to children with special needs, and a YouTube link of the school inspection video. CBSE has cautioned that submission of false or misleading information may invite strict action as per affiliation norms.
