CBSE Class XII Exam Analysis: ‘The paper had mix of easy, moderate & challenging questions’

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Class XII Physics exam on February 21, 2025. The three-hour exam commenced at 10:30 am and concluded at 1:30 pm, marking the completion of this year’s CBSE Board exams. Students were allotted 15 minutes, from 10:15 am to 10:30 am, to thoroughly review the question paper before beginning the test.

The Board initiated the exam process for Classes X and XII on February 15, with Class XII exams concluding on April 4, 2025. The Board had declared the date sheet in November last year. This year, approximately 44 lakh students from 26 countries appeared for the Board exams.

This year the Physics paper was divided into five sections – A, B, C, D, and E.

The format of the question paper

The CBSE Class 12 Physics question paper for 2024-25 was for three hours and worth 70 marks. The paper had five sections, with each section containing a different type of question.

Section A: 16 questions, had 12 multiple-choice questions and 4 Assertion-Reasoning questions, each worth 1 mark

Section B: 5 questions, each worth 2 marks

Section C: 7 questions, each worth 3 marks

Section D: 2 case study-based questions, each worth 4 marks

Section E: 3 long answer questions, each worth 5 marks

According to Ms Sonika Srivastava, TGT Physics, Apeejay School Nerul, the all three sets of questions followed the CBSE pattern and consisted of five sections. “All the questions were based on the prescribed syllabus. If we look at the difficulty level, it was moderate and well-balanced and included higher-order thinking skills for advanced students,” the educator said and added there were some easy questions for average students as well.

There were application-based and conceptual questions. The major focus was on derivations and numericals, especially in Sections D and E.

Sharing the student feedback and performance, Ms Srivastava said, “The paper was described as lengthy but manageable. Almost all the students were able to complete the exam within the three-hour time limit. Some questions were considered tricky. As compared to the previous year, which had a higher difficulty level, this year’s question paper was balanced and catered to all students.”

Overall, the paper was a mix of easy, moderate, and challenging questions, making it suitable for a diverse group of students.
