CBSE: 75% attendance mandatory for 2025 exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reminded all affiliated schools about the mandatory 75% attendance requirement for students to be eligible for the 2025 Board exams. The Board emphasised strict adherence to its examination bye-laws, which require students to meet this attendance threshold.

In an official notice, CBSE has instructed schools to ensure that all students in classes IX and XI are registered for the Board exams by October 16, 2024. The Board made it clear that no registrations will be accepted after this deadline, stressing that schools must ensure the registration of 100% of their students.

CBSE highlighted recurring issues where schools reported missing registrations during the submission of the List of Candidates (LoC) due to clerical errors, hospitalised students, or technical glitches. The Board has warned that such mistakes will not be tolerated and will be viewed seriously.

Regarding the attendance mandate, CBSE reiterated that students will be granted a relaxation of up to 25% only in cases of medical emergencies, participation in national or international sports, or other serious situations, provided the necessary documentation is submitted. Schools are urged to inform students about these attendance requirements and monitor attendance regularly.

The Board also warned that it may conduct surprise inspections to verify attendance records. Schools found with incomplete records or discrepancies in student attendance may face strict action, including possible disaffiliation, and students may be disqualified from appearing in board exams. No changes to attendance records will be permitted once shortage cases are submitted to the Board.
