Capturing Talent on Canvas: Usheen Rajpal

At just class 5 Usheen Rajpal’s artistic skills have already captured eyes, making her the Apeejay Aspiring Artist of the Week. Her keen eye for detail and vivid imagination shine through her paintings, proving that talent knows no age. In this exclusive interview, Usheen talks about her love for art, the themes that inspire her, and how her school fuels her creative aspirations.

When did you first discover your love for drawing?
I started drawing when I was in class 3. Initially, it was just for fun, but I soon realised how much I loved creating different things on paper. As I drew more, my interest in art grew stronger.

Which art form is your favourite and why?
My favourite art form is water painting. I enjoy how watercolours blend naturally on paper, creating soft, realistic effects. It feels magical to see an image slowly take shape with each stroke.

How has your school supported your journey as an artist?
Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg has played a big role in improving my skills. My art teacher always guides me, helping me understand my mistakes and how I can improve. The teachers here constantly encourage and appreciate my artwork, which motivates me to keep exploring art further.

What does art mean to you?
To me, art is a powerful form of imagination. It is a stress reliever and a way to express my thoughts, creativity, and emotions without using words. Art lets me show the beauty I see in the world.

How much time do you usually take to complete one artwork? What themes do you enjoy exploring?
It takes me around 2 to 3 hours to complete an artwork, depending on the details. I enjoy creating scenic beauty, such as landscapes, sunsets, mountains, and natural surroundings. These themes give me peace and connect me to nature.

What can we expect from your upcoming artworks?
I am currently working on an architectural painting. I love the idea of capturing buildings, monuments, and structures on paper, adding my own creative perspective to them.

Is there any new art form you wish to learn?
Yes, I want to learn perspective drawing. It will help me add depth and dimension to my artwork, making it more realistic and detailed.

Apart from art, what other hobbies do you enjoy?
I enjoy dancing and acting apart from drawing. These activities allow me to express myself differently and keep me active and creative.
