A thoughtful and driven Class XII student, she approaches learning with clarity and purpose. Recently honoured with the prestigious Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values, she believes in exploring her interests deeply before choosing a career path aligned with both her abilities and values. Meet Sohini Mondal, a Class XII student at Apeejay School, Noida.
In a candid interview, she shares her journey at this school since nursery.
How has the school shaped you over the years?
Being at the same school throughout my entire education has shaped me gradually over the years. There has always been academic and emotional support from teachers. The school has played a strong role in my personal growth and overall personality development.
How have co-scholastic activities helped you discover your strengths?
If the editorial post (Editor English for school magazine) did not exist, I probably would not be pursuing this interest at all. Competitions happen once a year, but a role like this allows me to work consistently on something I enjoy throughout the year. That consistency has helped me develop discipline and persistence.
Is there any teacher or mentor who has especially influenced you?
It is difficult to name just one teacher because I have been here for so long. Every teacher has contributed in some way. That said, my present class teacher has been a huge support, especially over the past two years. The faith and encouragement teachers show really motivate you to do better.
What key soft skill do you feel the school has helped you develop?
Responsibility. I may not be a natural leader who commands a room, but being an editor has taught me accountability. Even though there is a team, the final responsibility lies with me, and that has taught me how to manage both my own work and others’.
What advice would you give to students just starting their journey here?
Pursue what genuinely interests you. Be yourself. If you are passionate about something, you will find opportunities to explore it either in school or later in life. Do not give up on what you enjoy.
What are your plans after Class XII?
I have taken PCMB, so I have multiple options open. At the moment, I am preparing for the NEET exam. I also plan to apply for research opportunities at government-run universities.
