Breaking barriers, building awareness

Recently, Apeejay School, Noida, in collaboration with GlobalHunt Foundation and Unicharm India, conducted an impactful workshop aimed at raising awareness on menstrual hygiene and puberty-related changes. The event, designed for students of Classes V to XII, addressed crucial aspects of adolescence, promoting scientific knowledge, healthy habits, and dismantling long-held taboos respectfully and inclusively.

The initiative was part of the CSR programme “My Menstruation, My Pride” by GlobalHunt Foundation, supported by Unicharm India, a leading Japanese brand known for Sofy and Mamypoko Pants. With a footprint in over 2,000 schools and a lakh students across India, the programme has been creating awareness and instilling confidence in young individuals nationwide.

The session for girls (Classes V–XII) spanned 60 minutes, including a comprehensive 45-minute presentation followed by a 15-minute Q&A. Topics included the biological understanding of menstruation, hygiene practices, addressing social myths, and promoting body positivity and confidence. The boys’ session (Classes VII–XII), conducted over 40 minutes, delved into the physical and psychological changes during puberty, reproductive health awareness, and fostering mutual respect and empathy among genders.

More than 400 students participated across multiple batches, with the active involvement of class teachers, Vice-principals, and senior staff. The school Principal also graced the event, underlining the institution’s commitment to holistic education. The sessions were highly interactive, with students asking thoughtful, relevant questions, indicating their interest and engagement.

The workshop was praised for its age-appropriate, scientifically sound content and the sensitive yet straightforward manner in which delicate topics were addressed. Students shared that the open environment helped them understand their bodies better and cleared misconceptions. Teachers echoed similar sentiments, recognising the need for such educational sessions to promote emotional and physical well-being.

All participants received e-certificates, acknowledging their participation and encouraging continued learning.

The workshop marked a meaningful step in normalising conversations around menstruation and puberty, equipping students with knowledge and confidence. Apeejay School, Noida, remains dedicated to creating safe spaces for students to grow into informed, respectful, and self-aware individuals.
