Dharmendra Pradhan, the Minister for Education, has unveiled the completion of the new curriculum framework (NCF) aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Anticipated for the 2024 academic session, the upcoming curriculum’s textbooks are also set to be developed.
In accordance with the NEP’s 2020 guidelines, the NCF has introduced noteworthy changes. Particularly, Board exams will undergo a transformation, with their frequency being doubled to twice a year. This adjustment aims to provide students with ample time and opportunities to showcase their academic capabilities effectively. The students will have the advantage of retaining their best score from these exams. This innovative approach allows students to select subjects for Board exams when they have completed their coursework and feel suitably prepared. The exams will assess the understanding, and achievement of competencies rather than months of coaching and memorisation.
In addition, students in classes IX and X will need to learn three languages, of which at least two will be native to India. In classes XI and XII, students will learn two languages, including one of Indian origin, according to the final Framework released by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
